ICF Clinical Unit Visit Fellowship
The ICF Clinical Unit Visit Fellowship is an eight-week training opportunity that enables young oncologists to gain hands-on experience in clinical oncology and research at a leading oncology centre of excellence to be approved by ICF. Supported by the International Cancer Foundation (ICF), the programme is designed to strengthen professional networks, enhance technical capacity, and promote the exchange of best practices across borders.
Programme Focus
Fellows can tailor their training experience by focusing on a specific tumour type or patient group.

Mentorship
Each fellow is paired with a mentor at the host institute for 12 months after the end of the visit.
This extended mentorship supports:
- Continued knowledge transfer
- Application of newly learned techniques back home
- Sustained collaboration between host and fellow
Funding & Duration
- 6,000€ for an 8-week fellowship
- 1,000€ administrative support for the host institute
- Economy-class travel to/from the host country (according to ICF travel policy)
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be an oncologist (or in oncology training) with minimum two years’ clinical experience in internal medicine or medical, surgical, or radiation oncology
- Be currently active in clinical oncology or cancer research
- Be proficient in English and/or the host country’s language
- Secure approval from:
- Home institute, and
- Host institute (or propose an institute they wish to visit)
After the fellowship, fellows must submit a final report, which will be published on the ICF website.

- Fully completed application form
- Motivation letter
- If host institute is confirmed:
- Acceptance letter including a proposed programme
- If host institute not yet confirmed:
- Letter proposing a preferred institute and focus area for the visit
- Recommendation letter from the home institute’s department head

Review Process
Applications are evaluated by the ICF Board and Scientific Committee, with particular attention to:
- Quality of the CV
- Motivation letter
- Clarity and relevance of the proposed clinical visit
- Sustainability of impact in the home institute
Supervisors in both host and home institutes are preferably Full or Associate ESMO members.
Important notes:
- Applications must be submitted in English
- Incomplete applications are not accepted
- Results will be communicated approximately two months after the deadline
